Office of Faculty Affairs New Leader Orientation and Information Sessions

Each semester, the Office of Faculty Affairs offers live sessions with Vice Provost Willy Prado to prepare and support new faculty in leading their units. Whether working with students, staff or faculty, these sessions provide guidance and resources to lead successful groups. Sessions include: “Getting To Know Your Canes Team & Consultation Network:  Who Is Who At UM? Who can you count on?”, “What Makes a Great Leader: Lessons Learned from Experienced UM Leaders” and “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Our Roles As Stewards For UM’s Mission.” For more information, contact Tatiana Perrino, Associate Provost for Faculty Development.

Talent and Organizational Development Sessions

Human Resource's Talent and Organizational Development (TOD) offers a number of free interactive leadership and professional development programs, coaching services, tailor-made development for teams, team building activities, and online learning for faculty. Featured sessions include:

  • “Develop Yourself: Coaching & Feedback”. In this 60-minute interactive session, participants practice techniques to establish support and accountability with colleagues. Course Objectives include learning about creating a growth mindset, helping others learn and grow, and understanding the impact of coaching and feedback on driving performance.  
  • “Crucial Conversations”. This session trains leaders to engage in difficult conversations, resolve disagreements, and overcome resistance. Click here to learn more about the Crucial Conservations program.
