Academic Personnel Board

The Academic Personnel Board, or “APB” is tasked with reviewing each case submitted by the Deans for promotion and tenure to ensure that Department, School/College, and University standards and procedures are being followed and applied equitably, and making recommendations on each case to the Executive Vice President and Provost. The APB is chaired by the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and is composed of 25 tenured full professors and an appointed nonvoting representative from the Faculty Senate. APB members are chosen from the various disciplines on the basis of their personal achievements in their respective fields.

Standing Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Established as part of the recommendations of the 2015 Task Force on Concerns of Black Students, this standing committee coordinates actions across the entire University community. The standing committee is entrusted with the researching recommending and promoting educational and programmatic efforts that are consistent with UM’s unwavering dedication to diversity and inclusion.

Committee on Honorary Degrees

The Committee on Honorary Degrees, chaired by the Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs, is charged with reviewing honorary degree nominations and making recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

Academic Computing Advisory Committee

The Academic Computing Advisory Committee (ACAC) approves policies concerning academic computing, and engages in strategic planning, systems evaluation, and needs identification for academic computing, including the hardware, software, services, central and school-level IT infrastructure and networks that support the academic units of the University. The ACAC has responsibility for keeping the faculty and university administration informed about IT activities, opportunities, challenges and problems.

Alumni Association Board of Directors

The Alumni Board of Directors of the University of Miami Alumni Association is the governing body for the association and the more than 191,000 living alumni of the University of Miami. Service on the Alumni Board of Directors is on a volunteer basis and demonstrates the highest level of commitment from our alumni community. Members are ambassadors for the University of Miami and critical leaders in helping the Alumni Association implement strategic initiatives.

UM Information Security Advisory Council

The Information Security Office works in cooperation with many committees throughout the University to ensure the appropriate security actions are taken to protect the institution without undermining the ability of the institution to function effectively and efficiently. Some of the committees the ISO leads or regularly collaborates with include the Faculty Senate, Clinical Research Electronic Data Committee, HIPAA Steering Committee, Health Information Integrity Committee, Information Technology Leadership Council, Compliance and Risk Managers Council, PCI Steering Committee and the Academic Computing Advisory Committee.

Employee Benefits Advisory Council

The Employee Benefits Advisory Council (EBAC) provides advice, guidance, and input about benefits to University leaders and play an active role in educating employees about their benefits choices. The EBAC is representative of the University’s workforce with 16 members drawn from all campuses and employment categories. The EBAC is chaired by Jacqueline Travisano, executive vice president for business and finance and chief operating officer.

Retirement Plans Committee

The University of Miami Retirement Plans Committee was created by the Board of Trustees to assist the Board by overseeing plan operation, benefit plan design, and 403(b) investment options of the University’s retirement plans. The Committee meets two times per year in the spring and fall and may require additional meetings depending on the agenda.

Parking Appeals Committee

All constituencies of the University of Miami are represented on the Parking Appeals Committee. Members of the Committee are appointed to serve a term of one year.

The mission of the Graduate Council is to promote graduate education, scholarship, and research; to support individuals, departments, and programs in the pursuit of excellence; to foster innovative, multidisciplinary, and interdisciplinary activities; and to maintain high ethical and academic standards in graduate studies.

Graduate Fellowship Review Committees

Each academic year the Gradaute School selects faculty from across the schools and colleges to evaluate nominees for the UM Fellowshipone of the highest awards offered by the Graduate School.
